Abstract

The optimal strategy model is the most widely used model in railway transit assignment, on which transit volume is assigned in proportion to railway frequency (headway). However this model does not account for public transportation information and operates under the assumption that passengers board the first arriving vehicle, which fails to reflect the modem travel behavior of selecting routes based on pre-identified public transportation information. On the other hand, the schedule-based model can assign transit volume by setting target times. This study compares and analyzes the transit assignment results of these two models using toy networks and the KTDB railway network. The analysis indicates that the schedule-based model is more intuitive and rational. Therefore, for the long-tenn improvement of railway demand analysis methods, the active utilization of the schedule-based model is necessary. Additionally, at the national level, various empirical studies are required to establish and standardize detailed basic data (O/D, transit lines, etc.) on an hourly basis.
