Abstract

Spatiotemporal databases support historical information as well as spatial management at the same time. However it is very complex to manage these two dimensions where exists on difference of inborn property of temporal and spatial dimensions. Therefore, an efficient data model and access method for the integrated dimension should be studied, and it can be achieved by means of development of efficient indexing technology. In this paper, we suggest a spatiotemporal data model that supports a bitemporal concept for spatial objects. We also propose a unified spatiotemporal index model as an efficient index for spatiotemporal data to handle efficiently both spatial and temporal data.
