Abstract

This paper presents a novel wake-up consumer device for emergency alert service in T-DMB systems. The wakeup apparatus can activate a disabled T-DMB receiver in order to receive the emergency alert message in the case of emergency. The proposed wake-up method consists of two stages. As the first stage, the wake-up technique performs a coarse detection. A simple correlation is utilized in the coarse detection. For the correlation, a predefined preamble is used during the null-symbol time in the T-DMB frame. Then, a fine detection is performed as the second stage. For the fine detection, a flag detection method is proposed, which gives better detection performance than the conventional detection approach. Furthermore, the wake-up scheme can enhance the receiver performance for emergency alert service in T-DMB systems. Once the wake-up signal is identified, the enabled T-DMB receiver activates an advanced channel estimator for better receiver performance. The advanced channel estimator relies on an adaptive estimation method for more accurate estimation, which leads to the enhanced emergency alert service in T-DMB systems.
