Abstract

An all-fiber acousto-optic modulator (AOM) based on a simple combination of shortlength cladding-etched fiber and piezoelectric transducer is proposed and its use for active modelocking of a fiber laser is experimentally demonstrated with an output pulsewidth of 2.66 ps.
