Abstract

The urban railway is the major means of transportation in the city of Seoul, which is designed on the ground or underground. However, the environmental noise problems have been encountered in residential areas near urban railways on the ground while urban development projects were going along continuously. In order to assess the environmental railway noise level, most countries are usually adopting the method of A-weighted equivalent continuous sound pressure level in every part where railway noise occurs. However, types of noise are diverse and its effect on human psychology is complicated as the characteristics of the sound and the frequency are also diverse. Therefore, each person reacts differently to noises and a number of psychological approaches emerged. The aim of this study is to find out if the current railway noise assessment regulation would be an appropriate method of environmental railway noise assessment through jury test. In order to understand how people react differently through the paired comparison method in spite of the same level of physical quantity. The next thing through the sound quality index analysis is to find out the differences of subjective reactions what reasons are differently reacted.
