Abstract
Gold nanorods were prepared by the seed-mediated method described by Jana et al. Effects of reaction temperature and hydroxylamine concentration on the aspect ratio and yield of the gold nanorods were investigated by UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Increase in the reaction temperature led to a decrease in the aspect ratio of the gold nanorods. Results showed that the addition of hydroxylamine drastically improved the yield. In addition, Au/Pt hybrid nanodumbbells were synthesized by controlling the growth conditions. The growth mechanism of the gold nanorods is discussed with respect to the reaction temperature and hydroxylamine concentration of reaction medium.
