Abstract
Dependence of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) penalties on decision threshold and receiver bandwidth was discussed. The dependence of first-order PMD-induced penalty for non-return-to-zero (NRZ) and return-to-zero (RZ) signals on the receiver characteristics were measured. Results showed that the penalty was strongly dependent on the location of the decision point and on the electrical filter bandwidth of the receiver.
