Design of commercial ads dissemination system in vehicular environments

Abstract

Integration of smartphones and tablet PCs into Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has enabled customers in moving vehicles to freely get the traveler information anytime, anywhere. We exploit Wi-Fi networks and smart devices in order to develop a commercial ads dissemination system. Our system consists of three subsystems: commercial ads subsystem (CAS), web-based ads subsystem (WAS), and mobile ads subsystems (MAS). CAS plays a role as a bridge between advertisers on WAS and customers on MAS. Advertisers on WAS connect to CAS and request to disseminate the ads about their businesses to potential customers passing by their neighborhood. We utilize the common features of many off-the-shelf capabilities to develop a prototype operating on smartphones. Our system is able to provide the advanced traveler information services practically and economically in ITS.
