Abstract

Lane Control strategies are used to provide information regarding impending lane-specific traffic conditions that helps drivers change lanes efficiently. It is for improvement the safety as well as maximization the capacity especially in the case of freeway lane closures by smooth lane changing. Some examples of lane control application have been done in other countries such as China, Germany and UK, but there are few cases and studies in Korea. This study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of LCS theoretically and develop the multiple lane-merging model based on dynamic traffic flow condition in highway. This paper is focused on optimized model between maximizing throughput and minimizing queue length and presents the effectiveness of this model through some microscopic-simulation examples. The findings will help the evaluation of highway ITS deployment project.
