Abstract

Among many ITS(Intelligent Transport System) subsystems, ATIS(Advanced Traffic Information System) is one of the most widely used subsystem. Traffic information devices such as VMS(Variable Message Signs), internet, radio broadcast and cellular phones are commonly used to provide traffic information to road users. The main purpose of providing traffic information to road users is to find or decide the best solution considering traffic conditions. Throughout the given traffic information, road users are able to find the minimum time path to the destination. Also, road users are able to get some psychological benefit in addition to the real time saving by receiving traffic information. In this study, we intended to develop user satisfaction models to various traffic information devices based upon road users' benefits of different traffic information. First, we evaluate benefits of various traffic information devices. Also, factors are investigated to impact the benefits. Based upon the factors, user satisfaction models are constructed. The results show that influencing factors to traffic information devices are not common. However, the effectiveness of the given traffic information which influences the selection of routes is proved to be the most important factor.
