Abstract

An Emulated Peak Current Mode (EPCM) buck converter for high step-down ratio DC-DC conversion is presented in this paper. The proposed control scheme overcomes the limitations of conventional peak current mode (PCM) control at high conversion ratios, namely the issues of current sensing and short on-time. By sampling the EPCM signal, the converter captures the valley current during the OFF cycle and emulates the inductor current ramp during the ON cycle, enabling stable current control without real-time current sensing. The converter accepts a 6-15 V input voltage and delivers an output voltage of 0.8 V to 1.1 V. The emulated current slope matches the actual slope with more than 99% accuracy, making it ideal for high step-down applications.
