Abstract
Building energy consumption depends more on purpose than occupants. Land-based indoor fish farms in Korea are highly energy-intensive due to advanced water treatment in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Current thermal equipment control relies on managers’ experience, limiting optimization and efficiency. This study develops an EnergyPlus model simulating RAS indoor fish farm, validated against ASHRAE guidelines (MBE: -0.37%, Cv(RMSE): 11.9%). Using GenOpt optimization tool, optimal boiler (60-70°C) and heat pump (50-60°C) setpoints reduced energy consumption by 8.9%. The results demonstrate the potential for model-based optimal control to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions, contributing to sustainable aquaculture growth and cost-effective facility management.
