Abstract

The purpose of this study is to propose a method of extending the natural period of concrete buildings with Soft-First-Story (hereafter referred to as S.F.S.). In this study, the estimating equations proposed by authors are applied to determining Increase Ratio in Height of S.F.S. (Rh) and Diameter Decrease Ratio in Column of S.F.S. (Rd) to get the objective natural periods. For attaining the objective natural periods, Rh and Rd induced from the estimating equations have to be applied to the actual buildings. But some conditions should be considered for the proper application; that is, the limit of axial stress ratio, the slenderness ratio, Young's modulus, the strength of concrete, etc. Through this study, it is known that Rh and Rd induced from the preproposed estimating equations in the previous study can be applied to the actual concrete building if the conditions of S.F.S. were properly adjusted, and the objective natural periods can be attained by using S.F.S. of which columns are arranged by Rh and Rd.
