Abstract

As the channel length of pentacene organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) is reduced, the transfer curve is consistently shifted to the positive direction and hence the drain current at the zero gate voltage increases, presumably due to the short-channel effect. By using this electrical characteristic, a full-swing organic inverter suitable for integrated organic circuits is demonstrated by combining the long-channel PTFT as an enhancement-mode driver and the short-channel OTFT as a depletion-mode load. Furthermore, the voltage transfer characteristics of the inverter can be optimized by the proper selection of the driver and load sizes.
