Abstract

Single-mode guidance and nonlinearity enhancement in a non-silica Holey fibers (HF) was discussed. It was shown that extrusion could be used to produce the microstructured fiber perform. The application of compound glass fibers was limited because it was difficult to fabricate low-loss single-mode fibers using conventional techniques. Compound glass holey fibers provided great potential for the development of a whole host of truly practical fiber based nonlinear optical devices.
