N2 - In the vehicular network environment, geographical forwarding may be more desirable in delivering ITS data. Geographical forwarding requires the geographical location information of a destination node/area and/or that of the sender to be delivered along with the ITS data. For that, in the IPv6-based vehicular network, instead of using a shim header between layer 2 and 3 of the GeoNetworking protocol, we propose to use the IPv6 Hop-by-Hop Options extension header. In order to show the pros of our proposed mechanism, we list up the issues to be considered for the IPv6-based geographical forwarding and propose possible solutions. Also, we define the new IPv6 Hop-by-Hop options to be carried by the IPv6 Hop-by-Hop Options extension header for geographical forwarding.
