Abstract

• The higher Si content, the higher the LME sensitivity. TRIP1180 steel having 1.5% Si had most susceptible to LME cracking both through Gleeble test and spot welding test • The effect of spot welding parameters, electrode force and hold time, on LME cracking was discussed. Higher electrode force and longer hold time were very effective to decrease Type B or prevent Type C LME cracks, respectively. FEM simulation studies were also done in order to understand their mechanisms. • The effect of Type B crack on weld static and fatigue performances was investigated. The results indicated that there is no critical effect of small and medium size(~200µm) of Type B cracks on weld performance.
