Abstract

This study addresses the loss minimization and voltage stability analysis for low-frequency transmission lines connected to wind farms, pumped storage Hydropower (PSH) and Gas Turbine plant. The losses and the voltage stability index connected with renewable energy systems are heavily dependent on the operating frequency and create uncertainties in terms of voltage and frequency. Therefore, optimal frequency selection for LF-HVac lines also become important for the system. The voltage stability has been improved by STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) for given system placed at different buses to maintain stability of system. A simplified two-port equivalent model for transmission lines based on solutions to Telegrapher' method has been proposed for reducing system complexity and losses. The proposed method is tested with different existing algorithms and implemented in IEEE 39-Bus system and for scalability compared with IEEE 57-Bus system. The results obtained in MATLAB environment in Simulation lab which indicate that the proposed LF estimation method with the modified metaheuristic algorithm gives optimal frequency for low-frequency HVac systems.
