Abstract

In this paper, an analytical model is proposed for predicting the natural frequency of nonuniform piles in inhomogeneous soil under static vertical force. An emphasis is placed on the consideration of friction resistance at the soil-pile interface. The governing differential equation of the problem is derived with various boundary conditions and is solved by using the Runge-Kutta method in conjunction with the Regula-Falsi technique. The obtained results are compared with available solutions. Numerical examples for the natural frequency are provided to highlight the effects of the non-uniform cross section and skin friction of the pile, the soil-pile rigidity, the soil inhomogeneity and the vertical compressive loading on the free vibration of the soil-pile system.
