Abstract
We have investigated the optical properties of the perovskite manganites that show the colossal magnetoresistance and/or charge/orbital ordering. Our data show that their spectral weights can change quite drastically with the temperature and magnetic field. These spectral weight changes can be explained in terms of the double-exchange and the polaron interactions. Moreover, we have found experimental evidence that for half-doped manganites, the metal-insulator transitions which are due to the melting of charge/orbital ordering occur through a percolative phase transition.
