Abstract

Recently, as an element technology for reducing building energy consumption, an external venetian blind (EVB) has been attracting attention. In controlling EVB, optimal control considering heating, cooling, and lighting is required. When applied in a real building, it is difficult to apply an ideal control strategy easily due to problems such as complicated system and high cost. In this study, three simple optimal control methods of EVB were presented for the south-facing side of a business building with external blinds. Using the Hooke-Jeeves algorithm with optimization tool, GenOpt, the yearly, seasonally and monthly optimal angles of EVB slats, which minimize the sum of cooling, heating and lighting energy demands, were derived. In the case of monthly optimization, the energy demand was the least calculated. It is mainly optimized to reduce cooling energy and lighting energy.
