Abstract

This paper describes accuracy and complexity of received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and multidimensional scaling-map (MDS-MAP) to compare range-based and range-free algorithms. We also propose the modified MDS-MAP to simplify the transformation process to locate the real position based on RSSI instead of using least square (LS) for the transformation process. Ranging error performances of M-RSSl and simplified MDS-MAP are compared by simulation based on the map of the building. Simulation results shows that neither of the two approaches dominates the other.
