Abstract

We describe the detailed working mechanism of a two-phase xenon detector for the direct detection of a weakly interactive massive particle (WIMP) dark matter. Xenon provides many advantages, especially for background discrimination, when searching for a WIMP. A WIMP-Xe nucleus elastic scattering simultaneously produces a scintillation signal as a primary signal and electrons as a secondary signal. Here, we describe a possible primary scintillation amplification method with a CsI internal photo cathode. Using that method, we achieved a 1.8 × 102 ± 40 times amplification ratio for a primary scintillation photon, which will maximize the efficiency of a two-phase xenon detector to search for a super-symmetric dark matter, WIMP.
