Abstract

Reflection-induced penalty in Raman amplifiers was analysed. The crosstalk was generated by Raman gain together with either one or two reflections. The amounts of crosstalk depends on fiber attenuation, Raman gain coefficient, signal mode size, connector reflectance and fiber wavelength. Results showed a 1-dB penalty in optically preamplified receiver when the reflection-induced in-band crosstalk power was 25 dB below the signal power.
