Abstract

A novel method is proposed to reduce the noise figure (NF) in designing a spectral filter gain-flattened erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). It is shown that despite with small gain loss, using a double-stage equalizing filter greatly improved the NF compared to single-stage equalizing fiber.
