Abstract

Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy using the THz time-domain spectroscopy (TDS) technique enables identication of chemical composition owing to the spectral absorption properties of materials (Kawase et al. 2007; Son 2009; Watanabe et al. 2004). THz techniques are continuously applied in pharmaceutical research (Reid et al. 2010). For example, a THz spectroscopic technique can be used to detect illegal drugs such as amphetamine or to identify the spectral features of antibiotics such as doxycycline and sulfapyridine even when they are mixed with other materials (Redo-Sanchez et al. 2011).
