This paper provides an overview of the evolution of science parks and the brief prospect of DMC (Digital Media City) of Seoul. It briefly profiles the growth of the science park movement over the past 20 years. It then shows the current research effort on the classification of science parks and their limitations. The third section presents the evolution process of industrial district and science parks both in terms of the developmental trajectory of the main concepts and the locational requirements. The fourth section that follows briefly describes the design concept of DMC, which can be classified as a newest form of science park in the 21st century. The paper concludes with some comments about the prospects and perils of DMC in the context of metropolitan science park development.
