Abstract

This study aims to analyze traffic impacts caused by a bridge blockage and understand the effects of a transportation management plan. Using transportation management plan big data collected through vehicle detection systems (VDSs) and probe vehicles, the effects on traffic were quantitatively analyzed to evaluate the impact of a transportation management plan in terms of traffic volume and travel time. Both traffic volume and average travel time in all detours increased when the bridge was fully closed. However, the effects on traffic were lessened when the transportation management plan was implemented. The results of this study are expected to be used as a foundation for establishing an effective transportation management plan.
